“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do.”
– Brené Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection

When I first read this Brené Brown quote, I highlighted it, circled it, drew stars around it, and briefly considered a tattoo.

Why did it resonate so deeply?

The simple answer is that looking below the surface of our lives can be scary. (But, oh so rewarding.)

We are wired for connection and belonging. Though—if we are 100% honest—we wonder if we are quite      fill in the blank      enough to be valued and loved. We sometimes fear that no one would stick around if they REALLY knew us.

Most of us have learned to…
live with masks on…
hustle for worthiness…
numb ourselves from emotional
risk and vulnerability.

But it turns out that our strategies don’t work.

When we avoid our dark feelings and pain, we also numb the feelings we long for most – love and joy. When we strive to “fit in,” our deepest needs for belonging go unmet. We end up sleep-walking through our days with hearts that shrink back from authenticity.

Sometimes we need to be reminded that there is another way. We need a companion for the journey who can help us discover what’s blocking us from connection and contentment. We need someone who will walk alongside us as we risk more wholehearted living.

Daring Soul Care is here to offer that guidance and support.

The process of waking up, “getting your brave on,” and changing the way you relate to yourself and others may involve individual or group therapy, spiritual direction, transformative learning experiences, or exercises in expression and creativity.
