I am one of those people – on the playground, I was the girl hearing the whispered confidences of my classmates. On public transportation, strangers regularly open up about their lives. No matter where I’ve worked, I’ve always been dubbed the “chaplain.” Today I am privileged to serve this calling in private practice as a licensed mental health counselor and Certified Facilitator and Case Consultant for The Daring Way™ method based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown.
Some things that you might want to know about me:
I’m gifted at helping clients who are recovering from childhood or adult abuse (emotional, sexual, and spiritual). And I’m often sought out by people in transition, dealing with unhealthy relational patterns, or desiring spiritual growth.
I know how to make the ancient stories of sacred text come alive meaningfully for my clients in their real-time struggles and joys. I believe these ancient words have power because they continue to speak of our unique purpose and God’s great love for each of us.
I am passionate about Brené Brown’s shame resilience theories and The Daring Way™ team’s approach to wholehearted living. I’ve seen how this work can change hearts and lives (including my own).
Instead, I can offer to walk with you down your individual path to healing. If you are ready to embrace mystery and uncertainty and discover together how God might be working in your story, I can offer insight and compassion on the journey. Together we can uncover what’s in the way of your authentic freedom and take steps toward transformation.
If you choose to work with me, you’ll discover that I love to use art, journaling, metaphor, and prayer in the therapeutic process. I believe that creative expression reaches places in our soul that talk alone cannot breach.
In case you’re wondering:
I graduated from Reformed Theological Seminary (Orlando campus) in 2006 with a Master of Arts in Counseling. Previously, I completed four years of coursework toward a degree in English from the University of Maryland (College Park campus, 1975-1979) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies from the University of Maryland University College (virtual campus, 2003).
Currently, I am pursuing doctoral studies in Pastoral Counseling, Scripture Studies and Spiritual Direction with Graduate Theological Foundation. As part of this process, I will be attending Oxford University’s Summer Theology Programme (UK) in August 2014.
I’m committed to lifelong learning, which means that I’m always looking for great new sources of inspiration, insight & enrichment. For example, I’ve completed Larry Crabb’s School of Spiritual Direction. I received an Advanced Counseling Certificate from the Allender Center/Seattle School after completing a series of four intensives with Dr. Dan Allender and his team. I’ve also completed Allender’s Effective Trauma Care, Sexual Abuse Recovery, and Sabbath intensives. I took graduate Biblical Studies courses with The King’s Seminary. (This list doesn’t even touch on the art and creativity workshops that I’m addicted to taking!)
If you are a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern, I am a Qualified Supervisor who can work with you to provide individual or group supervision as part of your journey to licensure.
